Hire thinking

This is such a brilliant idea, for someone with a wardrobe full of dresses worn just once, the idea of borrowing one for the occasion which I could never afford to buy… it is so clever.  I LOVE it.  Can’t wait for the next wedding/summer party/black tie party!

Zara’s look book

Love this Zara look, to paraphrase Tyra Banks, ‘H2T’… or head to toe for those not quite so obsessed with America’s next top model.  Great hair, great eyes, great silhouette

Beautiful blues at Banana Republic

Temptation is overwhelming at Banana Republic with the new-for-spring-2010 blues collection.  Denim dresses, neat layering and calm colouring add up to a very clean, fresh look.  Good thing it’s not for sale online, otherwise my restraint would be seriously tested!

Snow? Soo last season.

The latest fashion magazines have landed with the resounding thump of spring on my doormat in the last couple of weeks.  It seems that London, certainly the fashion part of it, has had it with winter and is ready to move on – with silky sorbet colours filling the catwalk.  A beautiful Burberry Prorsum show [...]

Vintage-style jewellery

At lunchtime, I was strolling around the National Portrait Gallery… well, the shop at least… and just as I was leaving I spotted sparkly things.  Drawn magpie-like to the display, ready to be disappointed by the usual tat that is on offer in museums, I was surprised by some very refreshing, original and pretty jewellery.  [...]

Beautiful luxe Halston hits the Outnet

The Outnet.com has just had a delivery from iconic design house Halston.  Subtle shades of mink, mushroom and dove grey as well as contrasting citrus in silk, cashmere and leather make this addition to the cut-price designer off-shoot of net-a-porter.com a total lust-have.  Love, love, love.

A red carpet situation

This week I faced my first red carpet at the premiere of Daniel Craig’s new World War II movie, Defiance, and… it was the coldest night of the year.  So having spent all weekend searching the sales for a passably glamourous dress for gracing Bond’s movie (even if it wasn’t actually a Bond movie) – [...]

Great sales

By far and away my favourite looks this season were from the Donna Karan show: chic, elegant, great colours and beautiful fabric. So, when shopping yesterday for Henley dresses, I came across button-through dresses in black and grey/beige all I could see was how amazing they would look with a wide tan belt…that and [...]

Regatta planning

As an annual regatta is about to roll around again, I am faced with the usual dilemma’s of
1. Footwear: mud-proof, heel-free (being wedged into the ground at a slightly precarious angle is not a good look) and yet fabulous;
2. Dress: ideally maxi-floor-scrapingly long, but not from Coast or Monsoon due to the inevitable doppelganging, in [...]

New jeans

I have been without a good pair of jeans for everyday wear for several months now…the prospect of looking for some being not especially appealing. The horror though of waking up every day without being able to think, Afh, I’ll just wear my jeans today, as been almost equally stressful. But it seems [...]
